Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday said all the parliamentary parties were on same page regarding national security.
“In the wake of situation emerged after the statement of US President Donald Trump, we want to devise such a strategy that the country’s dignity should not be compromised, and the process of dialogue between the two countries should also not be discontinued,” he said while talking to media after presiding over the meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security here.
He said a unanimous statement would be adopted in next meeting of Parliamentary Committee on National Security in which defence bodies would also be invited.
He said during the meeting, all members of the committee tried to understand the real issue and focused on possible measures to be taken in future to handle the issue in the best national interest.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Defence Khurram Dastgir Khan, Minister for Climate Changes Mushahidullah Khan, Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Barrister Zafrullah, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, Adviser on National Security, Gen. (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua, Senator Ilyas Bilour, Syed Naveed Qamar, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Farooq Sattar, Senator Sherry Rehman, Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua, and Secretary Defence Lt. Gen. (retd) Zameer ul Hassan.
Ayaz Sadiq said the most important point of the meeting was that all parliamentary parties had shown national spirit by voicing unity over national security and nobody did politics over the issue.
Replying to a question, he said the next meeting was likely to be held by January 11 or 12.
