Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Ambassador Fayssal al-Hamwi, reiterated on Monday Syria's commitment to the principles of the international law and human rights law as well as following up the implementation of comprehensive reform. During the UN-affiliated Human Rights Council's meeting in Geneva, al-Hamwi expressed Syria's concern about the continuation of some countries in politicizing the work of the Council and practicing the double-standards policy. He criticized the ignorance of Syria's answers to the High Commissioner's questions on the ongoing events. The ambassador added that the High commissioner's report was based on biased sources and ignored the responses of the Syrian government which created a state of lack of confidence and incredibility. Al-Hamwi warned against accepting the fabrications of some countries, clarifying that Syria has been exposed for several months to an unprecedented campaign of fabrications and misinformation with the aim of weakening Syria and changing its political stances. Ambassador al-Hamwi pointed out to the provocative attempts of some satellite channels to spoil the reform process and destabilize the country, stressing that the way of those channels' coverage is a violation of the international law. He added that the Syrian leadership has adopted a large number of reform measures as it lifted the state of emergency, ended the Higher State Security Court, formed various committees to enhance development, issued 3 general amnesty decrees, formed a commission to set up the national dialogue rules, issued a decree on the right of peaceful demonstration, a law on political parties, a law on general elections and local administration. He stressed that such steps would contribute to making Syria an example to be followed in the region and the world at large. The ambassador announced that Syria is ready to receive the investigation committee of the Human rights Council in the near future once the Syrian independent judiciary committee accomplishes its mission.
