London - Arabstoday

Sunday Times journalist Marie Colvin's mother has made an emotional appeal for help to get her daughter's body back from Syria's Homs. The slain journalist's body is still languishing in Homs along with that of French photographer Remi Ochlik who died with her in a shell attack. Rosemarie Colvin "begged" for help as she told how she could not rest "with my daughter's remains in that country". She also pleaded for the death of award-winning journalist not to be in vain. She told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme: "I want my daughter back." Asked if she feared Colvin would be buried in Syria, she replied: "No, I just can't accept that. "Sometime, somehow we will bring her home. I can't rest myself, I can't have peace in my life with my daughter's remains in that country. I think that mothers listening to me would feel the same way and understand how a mother feels. "Anyone who can help in any way, I would just beg them to do it." Colvin, 56, died alongside Ochlik, 28, in the besieged Syrian city of Homs on February 22. Both were killed when a house where they were staying was shelled by Syrian government forces. Sunday Times photographer Paul Conroy and French reporter Edith Bouvier, of Le Figaro newspaper, were injured in the attack. They have both only recently been smuggled to safety in Lebanon. Colvin was the only British newspaper reporter in the opposition stronghold of Homs, which has become a symbol of the 11-month uprising against President Bashar Al-Assad. Syrian activists have accused Assad's forces of deliberately targeting journalists in rocket and shell attacks on the city. Colvin said she was "amazed and gratified" by the public support in the wake of her daughter's death. She added: "I'm going to miss her. I didn't want her to be the cause or the reason but I do wish that her death does mean something and that perhaps it would help to end some of these terrible, terrible things that are happening."
