Iraqi government forces used loudspeakers to tell Daesh militants in Iraq's Tal Afar city to choose either to surrender or die.

Iraqi field sources said on Wednesday that Daesh militants are panicked and fled to the city's center.

On Tuesday, Iraqi air forces dropped one million messages on Tal Afar urging people to mark Daesh hideouts with a certain Arabic letter.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi military source said that counter-terrorism forces stormed into southwestern Tal Afar.

Earlier Wednesday, Iraqi military spokesman Yahya Rasool said the Iraqi army is realizing great progress in Tal Afar battle against Daesh.

The spokesman said Daesh militants suffer a collapse of morale.

Besieging Tal Afar for a long period ahead of the assault has sapped almost 90 percent of the terrorist organization's power.

On Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi announced the launch of Tal Afar liberation operation.

Iraqi forces carried out air strikes on Tal Afar, a town held by Daesh west of Mosul, ahead of the ground assault.

About 59 Daesh members have been killed since the commencement of the operation.

Iraqi authorities had said Tal Afar, 80 km (50 miles) west of Mosul, will be the next target in the war on Daesh, who swept through parts of Iraq and Syria in 2014.
