Renowned writer and journalist Ahmed Bahgat died a few hours ago, at the age of 79, after a long struggle with illness. Bahgat is known for his column ‘Sandouq el-Donia’ (The Universe’s Box), which is published daily in Al-Ahram. He wrote several books including ‘Mozakerat Zawg’ (Memoirs of Husband), ‘Mozakerat Saem’ (Momoirs of a Fasting Man), ‘Anbia Allah’ (Allah’s Prophets), ‘Ahsan al-Qessas’ (The Best Stories), ‘Attareeq Ela Allah’ (Road to Allah), ‘Qamees Youssif’ (Youssif’s Shirt), ‘Taamolat Mosafer’ (Reflections of a Traveler), and ‘Naqat Saleh’ (Saleh’s Camel). Ahmed Shafiq Bahgat, born in Cairo 15 November 1932, had a BA in law from Cairo University, and held several positions in journalism; he worked for Akhbar El-Yom then Sabah El-Kheir magazine, before joining Al-Ahram.
