Abdelkbir Alaoui M’Daghri, who served as Morocco’s Minister of Islamic Affairs and Awqaf from 1985 to 2002, died on Saturday.

M’Daghri, also a lawyer and a politician, was born in 1942 in Meknes.

The former Minister obtained his high school degree from Al Qaraouyine and moved to the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah Faculty of Human and Social Sciences in Fez. Mdaghri then obtained a BA from the Faculty of Law, Economics and Social Sciences in Rabat. He also obtained a PhD in Islamic Sciences from Dar Al-Hadith.

He occupied various positions: professor at the Fez’s University of Literature and Human Sciences, professor at Rabat’s Royal Institute, director general of the Bayt Mal Al Qods Agency, and professor at the kingdom’s pioneer University of Al Quaraouiyine in Fez.

In November 2012, M’daghri was decorated with the ‘Al-Quds Star’ award by Ahmed Sobh, former ambassador of the Palestinian State in Morocco, during a ceremony held at the embassy’s headquarters in Rabat.Abdelkbir M’Daghri Alaoui, Moroccan Minister and Politician, Dies at 75

M’Daghri published several books, including ‘Al Hokoma al Moltahia’ and ‘Tawrat Zennou’.

The deceased was also the author of the Bay’a (oath of allegiance) speech after the death of late King Hassan II of Morocco in July 1999
