The Cairo Opera House's Cine Club will screen Danis Tanovic's Cirkus Columbia at the Small Hall on Tuesday, 19 November. Cirkus Columbia is a 2010 Bosnian drama set in Herzegovina in the early 1990s, after the dissolution of Yugoslavia and before the Yugoslav Wars. Based on a novel of the same name by highly acclaimed Bosnian-Croat writer Ivica ?iki?, the film follows the emotional journey of a man who comes back to his hometown after many years away, and the challenges he faces dealing with his past and his family. Political turmoil in the region forms the backdrop to the protagonist's tale. The film was selected as the Bosnian entry for Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. Danis Tanovic's 2001 film No Man's Land won him an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as a Palm d'Or nomination at the Cannes Film Festival.
