It's also a good source of carotene and folic acid. Apart from being rich in mineral salts, this tropical berry has many medicinal properties. When consumed regularly it's said to help control diabetes. It's also widely used in Unani and Ayurvedic systems for treatment of digestive disorders, including diarrohea. The bark of the jamun tree is used to cure urinary disorders, de-worming, and also in herbal medicines by traditional healers. The leaves have antibacterial properties and are used for strenghthening teeths and gums. It's also used to stop bleeding. Studies have also indicated that that it helps in the prevention of cancer, arthritis and heart disease.
