The Qatar Cancer Society (QCS), formerly the Qatar National cancer Society, is planning to open a Qatar Cancer Academy by September. The Centre will offer certified training programmes to medical practitioners in Qatar, region and globally. QCS chairman Dr Khalid Bin Jabor Al Thani said that the Qatar Cancer Academy (QCA) will cooperate with international institutes to create certified programmes and provide education for medical professionals including physicians, nurses and other allied staff, Qatar’s daily Al Rayah reported. “We are presently looking at all such certified programmes available across the world and hopefully, we will continue to be at the forefront of cancer education in Qatar, in the region and the world,” he said.He also mentioned that the centre will launch cancer awareness campaigns. The QCS will work with the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, University of Minnesota, MD Anderson Cancer Centre and the George Washington University. Such institutions will explore research opportunities, “Our research efforts are going to be for local as well as international benefits as we will be working with other partners to priority cases, for instance, focus could be on breast cancer which is highly prevalent here in Qatar and later it could be other types such as cervical cancer and the rest,” he said.from gulfnews.com
