A medical team at King Abdullah Medical City succeeded in conducting gastric sleeve surgery on a patient weighing 265 kilograms, Al-Yaum Daily reported.
The procedure was an especially difficult one due to the patient’s weight, it was reported.
Dr. Ali Al-Montashiri, the head of the weight-loss department at King Abdullah Medical City, said a special program for such cases had been developed in cooperation with the hospital’s digestive, liver health and therapeutic feeding departments.
A swallowable ‘smart balloon’ to facilitate weight loss is placed inside the patient for six to 12 months, followed by weight-loss surgery.
