Dubai Municipality said the level of bromate substance found in the bottled water does not include carcinogenic substances that pose direct threat to the health of consumers. It said the ratio of substance existing in the bottled water is very close to the maximum limit allowed by the Gulf specifications. he civic body's statement comes in the wake of news circulated recently through the mobile phones that bottled water was polluted because it contained carcinogenic substances. The Dubai municipal officials said that the competent control authorities nationwide would be the first to inform public about any risk on the health of consumers as they care deeply about the public health. They added that in case of any violation to the endorsed health safety conditions the municipal authority immediately withdraws the product in question, inflicts severe punishment on the factory and takes precautionary measures to ban circulation of polluted item in the market. The officials said the bottled water package in question was not like others manufactured by the same plant that met the endorsed specifications, adding that the municipality has taken a precautionary measure by informing the water plant in charge to take correction measures to avoid recurrence of the error. hey added that the competent authority in the emirate, where the factory exists was informed, indicating that the Ministry of Environment and Water was also informed to order checking of the item in labs of other emirates. On the existence of the bromate substance in drinking water, the municipal officials said that drinking water may contain natural bromide substance, which turn out to be material Bromate substance due to its interaction with ozone.
