Minister of Health, Population and Hospital Reform Abdelmalek Boudiaf has recommended Monday in Algiers "the coordination of efforts in the promotion of scientific research in the fight against AIDS in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)."
During the high-level meeting of women's leadership in the fight against AIDS in the MENA region, the minister hailed "the quality of partnership with the UN agencies and the UNAIDS programme to strengthen cooperation in order to face the challenges in the fight against AIDS."
Boudiaf recalled "the last initiative aiming at promoting South-south cooperation and developing practical studies on regional challenges," and emphasized the importance "to create a regional centre of research and cooperation in the fight against AIDS."
The minister underlined the efforts made by Algeria since 1985 in the fight against AIDS and the different plans developed since 1989 for the short, medium and long terms."
Boudiaf also underscored "the Government's commitment to eradicating the scourge through the mobilization of all the involved parties, including the civil society, and the establishment of a multisectoral coordination."
The minister stressed the need to implement the national strategic multisectoral programme of fight against AIDS with the aim to reach the zero new HIV infections as recommended by UNAIDS.
