Abu Dhabi - Arabstoday

The Capital’s largest private multispecialty and wellness hospital has finally opened its doors to the public. Burjeel Hospital is the first private tertiary hospital to open under the new standards set by the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD). Located at Al Najdah Street, the Dh450-million healthcare facility by the Lifeline Hospital Group will provide comprehensive services in over 30 specialties, including cardiology, paediatrics, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, physiotherapy, obstetrics and gynaecology. The hospital currently only provides outpatient consultations in different specialities, dental services, specimen testing and diagnostic imaging but would be fully functional within six months, according to Dr Shamsheer Vayalil, managing director of BurjeelHospital.Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Dr Vayalil highlighted Burjeel’s concept of “wellness” which is apparent in the hospital’s fitness equipment that include a well-equipped gymnasium and spa. “It is a new concept ... (to get patients) to exercise under medical supervision”, he said. The gym uses a “wellness key” which is fitted in the machines and links the results to each patient’s medical record electronically. Through this, doctors can assess and modify their patient’s exercise regimen, if necessary. The hospital’s Indo-Arabian interior and warm ambience akin to a hotel facility, according to him, is also critical to the overall wellness of the patient. “We have designed the hospital for the patients, with more space to give them better healing process,” Dr Vayalil stated. Burjeel is the only hospital in the region to offer the comfort and convenience of suites, based on the requirements of Arab families. Its royal suite, which costs Dhs35,000 per night, boasts of five guest bedrooms and a patient room, each with their own bathrooms, a gym, living room, majlis, dining room and a kitchen. Spread over 70,000 square metres, the six-storey, 202-bed facility has 32 suites and 88 rooms, 14 ICU beds, 18 neonatal ICU beds, 10 operating rooms including the state-of-the-art Hybrid OR, five delivery suites, 16 emergency beds, 17 bed recovery rooms and 10 dialysis beds. Burjeel, which means wind tower in Arabic, was officially opened by Shaikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court.
