The improvement of knowledge in medical imaging, through the acquisition and mastery of new technology is "a must" for diagnostic research and management of certain diseases, said Friday in Algiers Minister of Health, population and hospital Reform, Djamel Ould Abbes. "In medical imaging, considerable efforts have been made both in terms of acquisition of equipment as training of personnel," said Ould Abbes at the opening session of the 12th Algerian-French day of radiology and medical imaging. "In many medical and surgical pathology, be it prevention, early detection or treatment, medical imaging is playing an increasingly important role," he said. In this context, the widespread upgrade of the technical devices in medical imaging and defining new rules of public services of medical imaging will of course be completed, Ould Abbes said. "This is a mission that challenges the national committee of medical imaging, for the establishment of procedure for approving medical imaging equipment," he added. This approval, the minister noted, will not only include technical standards of equipment, but also on professional foundation and the conformity of equipment in the domestic market. Within regards to partnership at local level, in the context of future health legislation, the reference centres will support and supervise services within the country, in a logic of continuous improvement, he noted. The partnership also aims to initiate other forms of partnerships while consolidating Mediterranean networks already in place and most of which are part of ICT applications on health, said the minister.
