Zika case
Kuala Lumpur - QNA

Malaysian health authorities on Thursday confirmed the country's first case of Zika, over a week after neighboring Singapore reported its first outbreak of the virus.

A 58-year-old woman, who had been to Singapore a few days earlier to visit her Zika-afflicted daughter, was also diagnosed as positive, Health Minsiter S. Subramaniam said in a statement. The woman and her husband returned from Singapore on August 21 and suffered rashes on August 28, He added.

Subramaniam said the victim's husband and the family who lived with her have yet to show any symptoms. "The Ministry of Health has already started vector control activities in the residential area of the case and other places that the patient had visited," he said.

Singapore has reported that for the period between August 27 and 31, there were 115 confirmed Zika cases, five of whom were Malaysian citizens residing in the island-state.
