London - Arabstoday

Whether it is a job interview or an informal gathering, first impressions are invariably long lasting. It is a make or break dealer. Not knowing how to interact with the other person may result in an uncomfortable situation. Be prepared and know how to know them right out of their socks. As they say, first impressions are last impressions. Etiquette trainer for various MNCs, Manju Sharma, shares her insights. Stop talking and listen Talking is sometimes seen as a sign of nervousness. People who talk too much also do not learn anything in the end. Practice the art of listening and you may be on your way to cracking a great job interview or making a life-long friend. Do not be afraid to laugh at yourself Let's face it . We're not perfect. But it definitely shows great character if you are able to laugh at your own faults. Make a joke about it and soon you'll find people warming up to you. Try to remember the person's name The best trick in the world is to use it repeatedly during your conversation with that person. It makes them feel special that you care enough to remember their names. You can also a step further and inquire after their family and pets (if any). Word of caution: avoid being too intrusive. Some people like to keep their personal lives private. Be humble It is the greatest virtue and also one of the most difficult to acquire. But again, nobody likes a braggart. Practice restraint. If people are really interested, they will ask you about your past achievements.
