A Kuwaiti delegation has taken part in the 2014 International Healthy Cities Conference, exchanging information and expertise with counterparts from various countries during the gathering, hosted by Greece.
Dr. Khaled Al-Sehlawi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, said in remarks to KUNA, following conclusion of the conference, that it constituted an opportunity to exchange experience among the participating delegations.
Kuwait's participation in the convention constitutes a significant move toward enforcing health standards in various Kuwaiti governorates, in addition to the swap of expertise with international experts and masterminds of healthy towns' initiatives, said Dr. Sehlawi.
MoH is keen on implementing "the healthy cities' initiative," he said, adding that the ministry had established a committee for implementing it, also indicating at plans to coordinate with GCC cities at this level.
Dr. Al-Sehawli noted the approach to carry out "an integrated program encompassing seminars and workshops at the various governorates to promote the necessary concept of healthy cities." For her part, Dr. Huda Al-Duweisan, the head of Abdullah Alabdul-Hadi Center, located in the Kuwaiti district Al-Yarmouk, called for boosting voluntary activities to enable citizens play a greater role in this realm.
Conferees discussed diverse relevant issues, such as boosting health of senior citizens in cities. The conference grouped 390 figures representing 59 states.
