Gallup Poll officials say after studying well-being and aging in America, they have discovered four keys to better emotional health in old age. The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index is a daily assessment of U.S. residents' health and well-being. Gallup interviews at least 1,000 U.S. adults every day and the Well-Being Index provides real-time measurement and insights needed to improve health, increase productivity and lower healthcare costs, officials said. After analyzing data from the index, Gallup suggested Americans 65 and older who do the following four things may help improve their emotional well-being: -- Get more education: The more educated they are, the more likely seniors are to be emotionally well-off. -- Obtain a standard of living you enjoy: Americans 65 and older who say they are satisfied with their standard of living are more than twice as likely as those who are dissatisfied to report high emotional health. -- Keep working: Seniors who work -- full- or part-time -- are more likely than those who don't to have high emotional health, even after controlling for other factors. -- Take care of your physical health: Older Americans who say they are in excellent or very good overall health are significantly more likely than those who say their health is good, fair, or poor to have high emotional health.y No further survey details were provided.
