Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro is in good health, Cuban Attorney General Dario Delgado Cura said in an interview with Russian government daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta. Prominent Venezuelan columnist Nelson Bocaranda wrote in late August that the health of the 84-year-old Cuban revolutionary and former head of state has seriously deteriorated. He did not cite any sources. "Fidel is fine, despite all rumors," the Cuban official said in an interview published on Thursday. "He regularly writes articles about international issues and has recently published an autobiographic book." Castro, who ruled the communist island for about 50 years, handed over the presidency to his younger brother Raul in 2008. He has rarely been seen in public since, triggering rumors about his poor health.
