Visitors to the Ramadan and Eid Festival at Expo Centre Sharjah will be able to avail of the services of the mobile clinic set up by the Pink Caravan and receive free examinations and screenings for early breast cancer detection. The Ramadan and Eid festival opened on Aug.11 and will run until the first week of September 2011.Ameera Bin Karam, founding member and chairperson of the FOCP’s Board of Trustees, said, “The UAE is committed to fighting the spread of breast cancer, and its leaders are directly overseeing the support for campaigns dedicated to this goal. This support extends to organising medical activities and conferences, and launching media and advertising campaigns, among other efforts. The Pink Caravan campaign — and the fight against breast cancer in general — will benefit from the involvement of government and the private sector, and we are working to enhance the role of the community in responding to and interacting with the project to ensure the best results.”Bin Karam added, “We decided to participate in the Ramadan and Eid Festival because it is an annual festival that attracts a large number of visitors throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan, and one that combines a consumer’s exhibition with traditional celebration. We aim to make free early breast cancer examinations accessible to the largest possible number of festival visitors, in line with the Pink Caravan’s strategy of reaching all segments of society through various educational, entertaining and professional channels. We expect this event to be a resounding success for the campaign, similar to the previous one that we launched.” Pink Caravan has provided mobile medical clinics offering medical support and promoting awareness regarding the risks of breast cancer in several places, including Sharjah Women’s Prison, the Shaam Area in Ras Al Khaimah, and visitors to the Atlantis hotel on the Palm.
