Washington - QNA

A new study revealed that the United States will use a small portion of the proceeds of the tobacco industry to employ them in programmes aimed to reduce smoking. 'Health Day News' website today published the study conducted by diseases reduction and prevention centres which showed that the United States raised between 1998 and 2010 a total of USD 244 billion from settlement of the tobacco industry payments and taxes on the production of cigarettes, but it invested about USD 8 billions to create effective programmes to combat smoking and reduce it. The study added that under the Settlement Agreement with American tobacco companies, the latter agreed to compensate states for health care costs associated with smoking.
