Princess Hessa Al-Shaalan, wife of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, will attend the graduation ceremony for graduates of the nursing college of King Saud University for Health Sciences (KSUHS) in Riyadh on Sunday. The event at King Faisal Conference Hall, where 68 nurses will receive their degrees, coincides with the 10th anniversary of the founding of the nursing college. KSUHS Rector Abdul Mohsen Al-Qanawi, who is also executive director of the National Guard Health Affairs, thanked Princess Hessa for her sponsorship of the graduation ceremony. “The princess’s honorable presence will serve as an incentive and support to all women staff of the health sector in the Kingdom to offer their services,” Al-Qanawi said in a statement. He said the graduating Saudi women would add to the number of local nurses to fill the gap for highly qualified Saudi professionals in the vital sector. He added that the two colleges of nursing in Jeddah and Ahsa send out 70 women graduates annually. Stressing the importance of the graduation ceremony coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the college’s founding, rector of the college Dr. Haya Al-Fouzan said: “The nursing profession is, no doubt, one of the pillars of health care. It is an indivisible part of the health sector which is fast expanding and developing.” She said the fresh graduates from Riyadh are sure to fill the gap for Saudi nurses in the country as they have been taught and trained in the most modern environment provided by the KSUHS.
