Abdul Salam Hareb Al Rumaithi, UAE Ambassador to Montenegro, has held a meeting with Osama Makkawi Khogali, UNICEF's Representative to Montenegro, at the UAE Embassy in Podgorica, where the UNICEF official noted and commended the UAE's extensive humanitarian efforts in various fields.
Khogali expressed his appreciation for the UAE's work in monitoring international humanitarian situations, combating poverty, assisting developing countries, empowering women, enabling young people, and its special role in fighting for children's rights.
The UNICEF official said that Montenegro and countries of the Balkan are facing a problem with parents who refuse to vaccinate their children, especially against measles, saying this poor awareness is affecting lives and causing a major increase in the number of child deaths in the region. He added that lack of immunisations is a big source of concern for UNICEF which is affecting lives and increasing health risks which could otherwise be prevented.
In this regard, Khogali noted the UAE's support for UNICEF in its efforts to create a better world for children, stressing the need to launch awareness campaigns on the importance of the measles vaccine and to urgently distribute the vaccine in communities in Montenegro.
