Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev left for Egypt Thursday to attend the inauguration ceremony of the New Suez Canal.
The government's media center issued a statement, carried by Sputnik, in which it said that the visit also aims to boost bilateral cooperation.
Moscow supports Egypt in the fight against international terrorism and is willing to contribute to any efforts to support Egyptian military and police troops, the statement said.
The two countries also pay big attention to enhancing humanitarian ties, the statement said, adding that about three million Russian tourists visited Egypt last year, which is 35 percent more than in 2013.
