HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani inaugurated Tuesday the Ras Laffan Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project at a ceremony held here .
Speaking at the event, Qatar Petroleum's Managing Director Engineer Saad Sherida Al Kaabi praised the vision and wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, particularly environment, one of the main pillars of Qatar National Vision 2030 launched by HH the Emir in 2008.
Al Kaabi added that Qatar has made a lot of progress by utilizing its natural resources under the leadership of HH the Emir. The energy industry has advanced, particularly liquefied natural gas industry where Qatar ranks top, he added.
Al Kaabi noted that the company was keen on benefiting from the best cutting-edge technology in raising the efficiency of oil and gas projects and creating appropriate technical solutions to all environment's challenges.
He highlighted projects that aim to stop gas flaring and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as Al-Shaheen Oil Field Gas Recovery and Utilization Project" project has been registered with the United Nations as a project meets the requirements of the Clean Development .
All of this comes consistent with the pillars of the Qatar National Vision that set by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al- Thani, which stipulates in its fourth pillar about environmental development on the environment management ensures harmony and consistency in economic, social development and environmental protection, he added.
The Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum noted that the project is operated by Qatargas on behalf of Qatar Petroleum, Ras Gas and its shareholders, is an environmental project that aims to recover gas that was flared during the LNG Shipping in the six berths in Ras Laffan port.
He noted that the project would reduce the flaring proportion at the port by 90%, the equivalent of one million and six hundred thousand tons of greenhouse gas emissions, an amount equal to the emissions produced by about 175 thousand cars in the year, at the same time, the project will contribute to the recovery of 600 thousand tons of gas a year, which is enough to generate the necessary energy to about 300,000 homes.
He added that the cost of the project is estimated as $1 billion and was completed without any accidents or injuries among employees or contractors, noting that Qatar Petroleum and its subsidiaries are committed to pursuing their leading role in the field of sustainable development , preservation of the environment and combating climate change .
Then HE Prime Minister and Minister of Interior launched the project by clicking on the control panel marking the start of the project.
Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project is one of the biggest environmental investments for "LNG boil-off recovery" in the world. The project has been developed by Qatar Petroleum ten years ago, where the project emphasizes the commitment of the State of Qatar to achieve a balance between industrial development with care for the environment.
HE CEO of Qatar Gas Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa Al-Thani said that Jetty Boil-off Gas Recovery (JBOG) Project is a big achievement for the State of Qatar. He added that Qatar Gas was proud to be chosen by Qatar Petroleum to lead the project located in Ras Laffan Industrial City. He also stressed the company's commitment to realizing the goal of Qatar National Vision 2030.
Up to 3500 workers took part in the project during its peak with a total of 22.6 million working hours from 2010-2015.
For his part, CEO of RasGas Hamad Rshid Al Mohannadi said that the project will decrease Carbon emissions and will enhance Qatar's position globally in the field of Natural Gas industry. He added that the project was a huge investment aimed at conserving the environment, which reflects the country's commitment to the cause. He noted that Ras Laffan is the biggest port in the world for exporting LNG. He added that it is also the only port that allows multiple LNG carriers to load their shipments simultanously.
