HM King Mohammed VI
Casablanca - Arab Today

HM King Mohammed VI chaired on Saturday at Casablanca’s Royal Palace the presentation ceremony of an electric transportation project in Morocco by Chinese group BYD Auto Industry Company and the signing ceremony of the memorandum of agreement related to this project.
At the beginning of the ceremony, an institutional film was screened to highlight Morocco’s efforts to promote transition to renewable energies and ensure green mobility.
This new project reflects HM the King’s determination to modernize the Kingdom's infrastructures and diversify partnerships with major global actors, particularly from China, thanks to the successful royal visits to this country.
It also shows the excellent political and economic relations between Morocco and China.
Speaking on this occasion, minister of industry, investment, trade and digital economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, said that the project will contribute to the implementation of HM the King’s enlightened vision for the development of relations between China and African countries.
Elalamy explained that this project has been made possible by several factors, including the visit paid by the Sovereign to China in May 2016, which was marked by the signing of several cooperation agreements.
The Kingdom has become a well-known competitive platform in the field of car production, the minister pointed out.
The project will be implemented on a 50-hectare site and will employ 2,500 people, he said, adding that the project includes a factory to build battery-powered passenger cars, buses and trucks.
For his part, chairman of Chinese group BYD Auto Industry Company Ltd, Wang Chuanfu, hailed the excellent relations between China and Morocco.
"BYD is pleased to cooperate with Morocco on this project, and to share its experience in several countries in recent years in the development of electric mobility systems," he said.
Cooperation between BYD and Morocco sets a model for other countries who seek to develop innovative energy solutions, Chuanfu pointed out.
On this occasion, HM the King chaired the signing ceremony of the memorandum of agreement on the development of an electric transport system in Morocco by the Chinese group BYD Auto Industry, which was signed by minister of economy and finance, Mohamed Boussaid, minister of industry, investment, trade and digital economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy, and chairman of BYD, Wang Chuanfu.
The ceremony was attended by speaker of the House of Advisors (upper house), HM the King’s advisors, cabinet members, national and foreign economic actors and several other personalities.
