Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, and other FNC members visited the Wahat Al Karama memorial on Tuesday.
The memorial was built to honour the UAE martyrs and pay tribute to the sacrifices they made to defend their country.
Al Qubaisi and other FNC members inspected the guard of honour and the Martyrs’ Memorial. The Speaker was briefed about the site that stands for the sacrifices and the acts of heroism of all Emiratis, especially martyr Salem Khamis Al Dahmani, who died while defending the Greater Tunb before the Union was established. She also visited the Pavilion of Honour and other key landmarks of Wahat Al Karama.
The FNC Speaker said the visit was part of the council’s societal initiatives included in the FNC’s strategic agenda for 2016-2021 and the UAE’s celebration of the 45th anniversary of its National Day.
"Wahat Al Karama embodies the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his directives to immortalise the names of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of their homeland,'' Al Qubaisi said.
''We are proud of the sacrifices made by the honourable martyrs of the UAE. The memorial was built to pay tribute to the fallen heroes,'' she added.
