Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry
Cairo - Arab Today

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry attended on Friday a coordination meeting of the African member states of the UN Security Council; Egypt, Senegal and Angola.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, asserted the three countries' keenness on holding periodical meetings to coordinate stances on issues tabled on the agenda of the UNSC, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu-Zeid.

This coordination ensures joint stances that serve the interests of the African countries, said the spokesman.

The foreign minister of Ethiopia attended the meeting as Addis Ababa will join the UNSC in January to replace Angola, said the spokesman.

The meeting tackled a number of issues, including the election of a new UN chief and the conditions in South Sudan and Burundi.

Also, Middle East related files, topped by the Syrian and Libyan crises and the Palestinian cause also figured high at the talks, the spokesman added.

The top diplomats agreed to continue coordination and consultation on issues of joint concern, said the spokesman.
