Cairo - Arab Today

Egypt is due to host the sixth session of the Anti-Corruption and Integrity Network (ACINET) in 2017, Egypt's Permanent Representative to UN-affiliated organizations Ambassador Omar Amer said on Saturday.

The fifth session of the ACINET conference approved unanimously on Friday a request by Egypt to host the upcoming session of the conference in the Sharm El Sheikh, ambassador Amer noted, expressing appreciation for all countries that backed Egypt's request.

Delivering a speech during the fifth session, the ambassador reviewed Egypt's counter-corruption efforts which were crowned by the country's adoption of an anti-corruption national strategy.

Egypt welcomes hosting the sixth session of the conference that falls within the framework of its tremendous efforts to boost international cooperation in the field, he said.

ACINET was announced on 30 July 2008. It includes 47 ministries and official agencies from 18 Arab countries, as well as observer members, and non-governmental group representatives, according to a United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) press release.

ACINET facilitates information and experience exchange, strengthens capacities related to the general politics and cooperates with various partners including the UNDP, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the League of Arab States (LAS), and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
