Egypt has called for concerted international efforts to fight terrorist organizations and weaken their sources of support in the wake of Saturday's attacks in London that killed at least seven people and injured 48.
"Egypt renews its call to all countries of the world to unify against the phenomenon of terrorism, and those who back terrorist organizations with support, finance and arms, confirming Egypt's full solidarity with the British government and people in these hard times," said the Egyptian foreign ministry in a statement on Sunday.
The ministry condemned in the "strongest terms" the two terrorist incidents at London Bridge and Borough Market on Saturday.
Assailants drove a van into pedestrians at high speed on London Bridge on Saturday night before stabbing revellers on nearby streets, in what police described as a suspected terrorist attack.
London Bridge is a major transport hub and nearby Borough Market is a fashionable warren of alleyways packed with bars and restaurants, always bustling on a Saturday night.
Egypt also extended its condolences to "the government and the people of its friend the United Kingdom," while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
The statement added that the incident represents a new episode in a recent string of terrorist attacks around the world, confirming that all societies and people are being targeted by terrorist groups.
Earlier in May, during the Arab Islamic American Summit in Riyadh, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said that eradicating terrorism means putting an end to their sources of financial and ideological support.
El-Sisi said that tackling terrorism thoroughly means confronting "those countries that supply, train, arm and provide political and ideological cover to terrorists".
