H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is heading a UAE delegation participating in a meeting of ministers of foreign affairs and chiefs of staff of member countries of the coalition to support the legitimate government of Yemen, which opened today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was attended by Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, alongside the chiefs of staff in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan, Pakistan, Djibouti, Sudan, Senegal, Morocco, Malaysia and Yemen. The meeting was also attended by the heads of international and humanitarian organisations, and the ambassadors of several friendly countries.
The meeting will discuss the means of consolidating the integration and co-ordination of the humanitarian, political and military efforts of the coalition, to guarantee the ongoing achievement of its goals, which will ultimately lead to sovereignty of the legitimate Yemeni government over the entire country, as well as national unity and regional safety, and independence.
Those at the meeting will also discuss the requirements of the upcoming stage of the coalition and the efforts of its various participating parties, as well as its role in promoting security and peace in the region and around the world, by reducing the threats to international travel routes and preserving their safety, along with preventing Iran’s interference in the region.
Saudi Arabia has led the coalition, as an answer to an official request from the legitimate Yemeni President, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, with the support of the United Nations Security Council, through the issuing of Resolution No. 2216.
The coalition also supports a political solution in Yemen and related UN action, in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanisms, as well as the outcomes of the National Dialogue and other UN resolutions.
The coalition works in a combined way to stand up for Yemeni citizens to resist the transgressions of the Houthi-Saleh militias, which threaten the security and safety of Yemenis, as well as global peace and security, through their threat to international travel and their support for terrorist and extremist organisations.
