Nile flood in sudan
The Sudanese Interior Minister Ibrahim Mahmoud Hamed urged citizens to take precaution due to increases in the River Nile's level this year which exceeds last years' rates including flooding periods.
Hamed said in an interview aired by the official radio channel on Friday that: "Reports show that a flood will happen this year, heavy rains that affects a number of states in the country will cause extreme damages due to its increasing rate."
The Interior Minister revealed: "The government will start a new survey operation to transfer those new citizens to more secured places. The dams and tanks helped a lot in controlling water in the north this year, but its capacity still limited."
Hamed called on citizens try to get benefits from areas submerged with rain water in several states in agriculture in order to satisfy needs.
He pledged that the Interior Ministry will exert doubled efforts in order to beat this crisis expected in the coming 24 hours. Opposite to Hamed's fears and preparations, the general director of the Public Authority for Meteorology Dr Abdullah Khayar said: "Rain fall in the country in last days was within the limits of known climatic rates." However Dr Khayar does expect rates to increase which increases the danger in the states of Sinnar, Blue Nile, South Kordofan and White Nile.
Khayar said that Khartoum in the middle of the country should expect to witness only light rain.
