Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, tonight visited he head office of Dubai Cares, a philanthropic organisation working to improve children's access to quality primary education in developing countries, to check up on its work in the eight years since its inception in 2007.

During his tour, H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid acquainted himself with the charity's projects, programmes and strategy aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty by ensuring all children have access to quality primary education and training teachers.

Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, in a presentation, explained that children's access to quality primary education can only be ensured by renovating schools and classrooms, improving water, sanitation and hygiene in schools, providing school feeding and stationary for students.

Deworming activities, early childhood education, teacher training, curriculum development and literacy and numeracy represent other pillars for realising Dubai Care's mission objectives set by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid was accompanied by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State and Chairperson of Dubai Cares; Khalifa Saeed Sulaiman, Director-General of Protocol and Hospitality Department-Dubai.

Dubai Cares' mission is to increase children's access to quality primary education is realised through integrated programs that eliminate the underlying obstacles that prevent children from going to school and learning. This is achieved through building and renovating schools and classrooms, improving water, sanitation and hygiene in schools, providing school feeding, deworming activities, early childhood education, as well as teacher training, curriculum development, literacy and numeracy.

H.H. Sheikh Mohammed commended the efforts of Dubai Cares and its achievement of global stature through promoting primary education in poor communities He reiterated his support for all the Dubai Cares' programmes and plans and commended Emirati individual and corporate donors for their generous support for the charity. He noted that Arab and Muslim society is generous and upholds the values of helping all needy and underprivileged people regardless of their race, nationality or religion.

Reem Al Hashimy, Chairperson of Dubai Cares, noted that Dubai Cares is recognised by the World Bank and the United Nations and is an honorary member of "Education First", the UN Secretary-General's global initiative for education.
