University of Technology Petronas in Bandar Seri Iskandar, Malaysia Abu Dhabi – Arab Today An exhibition will open in the UAE in October to promote affordable and ‘Muslim-friendly’ higher education opportunities in Malaysia. A predominantly Muslim culture combined with high-quality education at affordable prices is makes Malaysia a prime international destination for UAE high-school leavers, according to an education expert from the South-East Asian nation.
Shushilil Azam Bin Shuib, Educational Consul and Regional Director of the MENA & Indian Region at Education Malaysia, said: “Malaysia is a Muslim country that shares many religious and cultural values with the UAE and wider Middle East.
“The country offers a safe and convenient option for UAE parents who want their children to experience a first-rate overseas study experience at reasonable costs, and without being confronted by cultural shocks.”
Education Malaysia, the regional office of the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education, hopes to highlight the world-class facilities and internationally renowned universities that Malaysia has to offer at Najah Education, Training and Careers exhibition, taking place from 29 -31 October at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
According to the UAE National Bureau of Statistics, approximately 49,000 high school students graduate every year, leaving the door wide open for international higher education institutions such as those in Malaysia to step in and snap up students.
Education Malaysia will host more than 15 top universities and institutes from a dedicated country pavilion at Najah, where thousands of student visitors contemplate their next big higher education and career moves.
Bin Shuib said that despite intense competition from other countries such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and India, Malaysian universities have prospered in the international education market, with an edge in providing low cost studies ranging between $20,000 – $30,000 for an undergraduate engineering degree, or $15,000 – $25,000 for an undergraduate degree in IT, Business, Social Sciences, or Humanities.
“The Malaysian pavilion at Najah will be the one-stop centre where students can gain information about any Malaysian university, its programmes and facilities,” added Bin Shuib.
“Programmes on offer will include pre-tertiary study such as foundation or A-levels, right up to Doctorate and PhDs in numerous fields. We will also assist students with applying to their chosen institution, and guide them within all the rules and regulations for international students.”
Prominent universities in Malaysia offering overseas study opportunities for student visitors at Najah include Sunway University, Multimedia University, HELP University, and Asia Pacific University, as well as the foreign branch campuses of Monash and Swinburne Universities from Australia, and the UK’s University of Nottingham.
Students visiting the Malaysian pavilion will have the chance to go through ‘On the Spot’ university applications, while several institutes will conduct the English Placement Test for potential students to check admission eligibility.
