The Sharjah Media Corporation (SMC) announced the launch of 57 programmes and drama series on both its TV and radio channels for the month of Ramadan.   The line-up of programmes and exclusive productions which will be aired on SMC’s various radio and TV channels, namely Sharjah TV, Sharjah Channel 2, Sharqiya from Kalba, Sharjah Radio and Sharjah Sport TV, all contain Ramadan-inspired content highlighting both daily and Islamic values.   The new Ramadan schedule includes 23 programmes for Sharjah TV viewers, 14 programmes for Sharqiya from Kalba, a quiz show and Ramadan sports competition on Sharjah Sport TV and 18 new programmes on Sharjah Radio.   Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, chairman of SMC, said the new radio and TV programmes for the Ramadan season are in harmony with the spirit of the month and were selected as part of SMC’s mission to deliver meaningful content that stimulates and enriches regional culture while meeting the entertainment and spiritual needs of viewers.   “This is part of our corporate mission and role in developing cultural awareness, and falls in line with the guidance of our prudent leadership to advance Emirati society as well as highlight cultural and Islamic values.”The highly popular Iftar Cannon (Midfa Al Iftar), containing live short interviews with people and quizzes, will be broadcast on a daily basis, and cultural talk show, The Target (Nishan), as well as cooking showSpices (Baharat) by Chef Sumaia Obaid, are among the scheduled shows during the Ramadan season.

The studio-produced religious programme Fatawa, which discusses many topics from the Sharia perspective and communicates with viewers through many forms of media including social networking platforms, will also be aired.

Dr Khalid Omar Al Midfa, director-general of SMC, said the new Ramadan line-up targets all age groups and addresses different segments of the community. There will be a range of carefully selected Arabic drama series that cater to different tastes and age groups

As part of the many programmes listed on the Ramadan TV schedule is the World’s Most Beautiful Mosques and Charity Caravan.

Other religious shows have been scheduled to be aired as well.

SMC has prepared a variety of programmes for non-Arabic speaking viewers and listeners as well, focusing on promoting the preaching of the tolerant Islamic religion and providing interpretations of Quranic verses. The programmes were carefully selected to meet the needs of these communities in a culturally adapted approach.
