The 39th Conference of the General Assembly of the  FANA concluded here on Tuesday The 39th Conference of the General Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) concluded here on Tuesday with the participation of a large number of managers and heads of boards of directors and chief editors of Arab News Agencies. The General Assembly of the Federation of Arab News Agencies, in recommendations and decisions issued at the end of the meeting Thursday evening stressed the necessity of training courses to be organized by FANA. The Assembly called on the FANA Secretariat General to approach international and regional organizations concerned with the implementation of training programs for journalists to get necessary financial aid. It also recommended organizing of a training course for improving the performance of editors and news agencies to be held in 2012 focusing on topics such as elections, and to improve the performance of the editors and reporters, due to the large turnout and the desire of some agencies in more training in this area. It also called for holding more training workshops in the fields of economy, given their importance in the social life. It also called for full coverage of important and current global issues such as the impact of the Greece debt crisis in the euro zone, the volatility of oil prices, and money laundering. It also called for giving special emphasis to all reports and news carried by the Palestinian information centres and news agencies , particularly those concerning the Palestinian issue and the recognition of an independent Palestinian state. The General Assembly called on the Arab news agencies to provide the Secretariat General with their observations about the international news agencies coverage. It also stressed the need for the participation in the Mediterranean news agencies conferences in order to strengthen relations between the two sides and the expansion of news exchange. The General Assembly elected Mr. Ahmed Saad Al Buainain, Director General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) as President of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) for the next two years. It Also decided to renew the election of Dr. Farid Ayar as Secretary General of the Federation for a future period beginning after the end of his current term.
