Philips Hue smart 3D-printed lighting collection
Philips Hue has added a collection of luxury 3D-printed smart lamps to its range, to be shown at the Light + Building show in Frankfurt this month. Inspired by images of nature and solar patterns, the lamps can be controlled via a smartphone
and tablet app to create a huge variety of stunning artistic effects. These include choosing from a palette of over 16 million colors and white light shades, and even tuning your lamp to the sunset in real time.
Created in collaboration with German designers WertelOberfell and Danish studio Strand+Hvass, the LED lamps are believed to be the world's first 3D-printed smart luminaires. The two designs, ‘Entity' and ‘Tempest' are available as both table and pendant lights.
Entity uses the idea of reversing the geometry seen in the eyes of crustaceans and insects so the lamps become light emitting cells rather than light gathering cells. Tempest features over 3,000 sticks intertwined around the hue light source.
"3D printing provides more freedom, control and even personalization when designing lighting products," said WertelOberfell designer Jan Wertel. "Combined, we have created the most advanced, digital (even futuristic) technologies for a functional, emotional and unique object."
The collection will be available to buy from March 31, with prices starting at €2,499. Light + Building will run March 31 - April 4.
