A number of major and young stars tend to re- perform old popular characters which were presented several years ago, including "Armouti" by Ahmed Adam, "uncle Shak Shak" which appeared in Buji and Tamtam series and performed recently by young actor Mustafa Khater in a new television program. Is this considered as lack of creativity or an investment of success?
Egyptian critic Mohamed Shafie said that the reviving of old popular characters is the result of the absence of good comedy writers who can present new works, adding that actor Ibrahim Nasr was smart when he refused to present his popular character “Zakia Zakaria” in TV shows despite the willingness of the public to view it again.
Egyptian actress Menna Fadali said that there is no problem to present the same character as long the actor adds something new to the character to keep pace with the present, adding that there are any actors who have succeeded in reviving their old characters, such as Ahmed Adam, who presents “Armouti” character in the nineties in "The Secret of Earth" series, and he presented it again after 10 years in his new movie "Malish Ehna Bntbhdl".
Egyptian actress Safiya Omari said that some actors present popular characters during their career, and they can present them for several times, as long as they develop the characters through intensive working sessions with authors to consider variables in the characters.
Author Magdi Saber believes that production companies repeat old characters to take advantage of their old success, so it is necessary to present new works and create new characters. Critic Fathi El Ashri considered it as a lack of creativity, particularly the repetition of the characters only comes after long years. It shows that the artist did not succeeded in creating something important for fans.
