Actress is working on 2 different dramas
Egyptian actress Abeer Sabri will be appearing in two "very different" guises come Ramadan, she told Arabstoday. She is filming roles for el-Walda Basha (The Queen Mother) and Mazag el-Kheir (Good Evening).
In The Queen Mother, she plays a traditional, working-class girl who is in a relationship with the character played by Bassem Samra. "It's a major challenge because I'm trying to break the mould into which this sort of character has been traditionally placed, in terms of appearance and performance."
She added: "I've already started receiving good feedback from the set. Director Shereen Adel and my cast colleagues have told me they liked what I was doing, which is very exciting."
Asked about this transformation, she said: "I thought a lot about it at first to make sure that my appearance would give a jolt to the viewer's expectations, which was achieved with help from the director who told me she was pleased with the changes I made to the character's look. When she approached me about the role, she said she wanted me to appear in a new area different to my previous work, which I found really encouraging."
"Also, I'm very pleased to be working with Bassem. I think of myself as a fan of his and I've always made sure to watch anything he's in. Besides, he is such a great person in real life."
As for Good Evening, whose original title contains a pun related to partying and drug-taking, she said: "The series tackles the underworld of drug traffickers and their conflicts, which is what the title hints at. But there is a specific reference that you'll need to ask director Magdi el-Hawari and [actor] Mustafa Shaaban about.
"Apart from all that, I'm very pleased to be working with them because I adore Mostafa as a person. He's a very dear friend and I watch all his work and always like it. I've also wanted to work with Magdi el-Hawari for quite a while now and I'm glad that that's come true."
