Lebanese singer-songwriter Melhem Barakat
Lebanese singer-songwriter Melhem Barakat told Arabstoday that he will never again cooperate with Lebanese singer Majida Al-Roumi, after she violated an agreement between them following their
collaboration on a song composed by him.
He explained that she promised him that his work would be promoted before releasing her album, as she did when they previously worked together in “Eatazalt el-Gharam”. Barakat was surprised to find Majida promoting a song written by her and composed by Dr Abdul Rab Idris, in an act which he says violated their agreement and resulted in Barakat making such a drastic statement.
Barakat stressed that Majida assured him more than once that this work would be prioritised while promoting her album. He pointed out that she did not commit to her word and
he vowed never to repeat his mistake.
He said: “I have never broken my promises and I will not allow anybody to do this to me."
He explained: “I will not compose for any artist who does not abide by his word."
Speaking about his recent trip to Damascus, Syria, and the relationship between him and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the singer-songwriter defiantly stated: "This is not for Media to share. It is a personal matter and does not include any political aspect. I am always a citizen who knows his national duties and does them. I have not ever joined a political party. My only concern is my homeland, my people and the future. I hope that those who talk more than they think to understand my words."
As for rumors of a possible love connection between him and Lebanese singer Najwa Karam, Barakat refused to clearly comment on this topic, coyly saying: “I will not talk about it at all.”
