Egyptian actor Ahmed El Sakka Egyptian actor Ahmed El Sakka has refused, at the present time, to make movies about the Egyptian Revolution. And he expressed his surprise at claims that the Egyptian interior ministry funded his coming movie ‘Al Maslaha’, which he is shooting now. Confirming that, the interior ministry helps to secure any outside shoots in any movies, whether by securing the movie crew or by issuing permits for outdoor shooting.
El Sakka said to ‘Arabs Today’ in an exclusive interview “I wonder what is happening in Egypt now? There are a lot of voices that do not allow others to talk. And when you try to talk, there are thousands of people keen to distort what you are saying and make fun of you .” “Couldn't we understand ourselves?” he asked in amazement.
In response to the claims that the Egyptian interior ministry funded his coming movie ‘Al Maslaha’, El Sakka explained: “Those who said this claims do not know that any film shot outdoors is supported by ministry of interior, both in terms of security for the crew and the cast, and by issuing permissions for shooting in public places". He added: "If the film shows characters belong to ministry of interior, we get the arms from their warehouses. It is known that cinema is reflecting what happened in society, and it is a cultural good in the first place, so, to make such a movie you should be backed by all state organizations."
El Sakka denied to be afraid of portraying a police officer in the movie 'Al Maslaha', especially because there is a tension in the relationship between people and the in the internal securities these days, he added: " The police officer is a citizen like any citizen, and the police is like any institution, has the good and the bad at the same time."
He was surprised that a lot of people are dealing by the 'bad prevails' concept, saying this is not a way to deal with the post-January revolution era.
El-Sakka asked the Egyptian people to stop the attempts to drive wedges between them, and to look for what Egypt needs now, stressing that "Egypt needs work, and every Egyptian should focus on work, so we can overcome the current stage."
El-Sakka denounced the idea of black lists, describing it as a 'nonsense'; he wondered who put this lists and why, he stressed that audience alone has the right to put this lists, and they are only who can reject or accept any actor.
About his new film 'Al-Maslaha', El-Sakka said he plays the character of ' a policeman in the central security, combining a lot of contradiction in his life, he is a very serious and strict officer, he could be tough in many times, but in personal life he is very kind and romantic.
El-Sakka confirmed that it is hard to release the film on Eid Al-Adha, as they only shoot 10 days, suggesting that he refuses to make movies reflects the revolution, saying "the revolution is a complete drama, has a beginning, a middle, and an end, and the Egyptian revolution have not reached its end yet, when its events come to an end, artists would be able to evaluate it and deal with it authentically.
El-Sakka sees the success of comedies after the revolution as a sign that people need a break, away from politics and crises; he said "there is nothing wrong with that, everybody looks for entertainment and laugh as much as deep thinking. We need some moments to breathe and rest, and art is an oasis for comfort."
'Al Maslaha' will be an all star cast with 'Ahmed El-Sakka, Ahmed Ezz, Hanan Turk, Zeina, The Syrian Aabed fahed, Kinda Alloush, Ahmed Mounir, Salah Abdallah, Nihal Anbar, Amr Youssef, Ahmed El-Saadani,and Yasmin raies' . The film was written and produced by Wael Abdallah, and directed by Sandra Nashaat.
