Mai Selim
Jordanian star Mai Selim in an interview with Arabstoday has denied rumours of friction between her and her comedienne sister Mais Hamdan. "This is something that has never happened and never will," she
said.
The singer also said she was happy to work for the show "Hara Khamas Nogoom" (Five Stars Alley). The cast includes Ahmed Abdel-Aziz, Ahmed Bedier, Khaled Zaki, Ahmed Azmi, Nehal Anbar, Yasmin Gamal and Rasha Mahdi. The series is written by Sayed al-Ghadban and directed by Ahmed Sakr.
She believes the show will be a great asset to her career, where she plays the role of "Dalya", a daughter of a famous physician who belongs to a poor alley. She always tries to narrow the distance between her high social class and her family's. She then falls in love with her cousin and insists on marrying him despite the wide social gap.
Mai also said she was happy to guest-star in the series "Vertigo" where Hend Sabry plays the protagonist for director Othman Abu Laban.
She said she had "no idea" about a film which was rumoured to be the root of the dispute between her and Mais.
"Mais might have more information," she said.
When asked about Mais's support for her, she said: "Mais used to tell me 'I want you to rely on yourself'."
When asked if her the arrival of her daughter Lilly has affected her choice in roles, she said: "I have never chosen roles in this way...I am always keen on choosing work that is popular everywhere, whether in singing or acting."
As for her daughter's US citizenship, the star said: "I had never thought of that, but the conditions in Egypt were not stable at all and Lilly was my first child, so I decided to deliver her in the US lest there be any problems in Egypt."
The star said she was receiving several offers at the moment in addition to an untitled sitcom.
