Egyptian actress Ghada Abdel Razek
Cairo – Taha Hafez
Egyptian actress Ghada Abdel Razek told Arab Today that Hekayat TV had helped boost her career, following the success of her TV drama series Hekayat Hayah.
The production was broadcast during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. The actress dismissed claims by critics who described some of the language used as ‘vulgar’.
Razek played the role of a patient suffering from schizophrenia, and the drama tells the story of her struggles in life.
She said in her personal life, “I have suffered severe depression, and had to take a lot of anti-depressant drugs, which I stopped now. This urged me to highlight the suffering of patients with the mental disorder. I told talented writer, Ayman Salama of my experience, who surprised me with Hekayet Hayah.”
The actor added, ““Despite the difficulty of the role I found it interesting. When you represent a personal experience that you have already lived, it’s easy to play it on TV, and people believe you. This is what happened with me in Hekayet Hayah. Some of the psychological problems experienced in the role, I have already experienced in real life, except for cheating issue, I never had this in my life, but it happens and we often hear stories about it”.
Commenting about the some of the language used, she said, “I’m not responsible for some of the terms used in the series - it’s the director’s work. He is the only one who can say what can be said and what cannot in the series.”
Written by Ayman Salama, and directed by Mohamed Samy – Hekayet Hayah co-starred Khaled Selim, Rogina, Tarek Lotfy and Ahmed Zaher.
