Egyptian musician Riad Sunbati
The Cairo Opera house hosted on Thursday the inauguration ceremony of the 21th festival of Arab Music. The festival is taking place from November 8 to November 15, and this year's festival will honour the works of the late Egyptian musician Riad Sunbati, who was entitled as a "Music Prince" in the Arab world.
Head of the festival's administration Ratiba al-Hefni told Arabstoday that this year's festival will be distinguished by organising some concerts for children for the first time ever in the festival's history.
Hefni condemned the late apologies of some artists on their inability to be in Cairo at time for holding their concerts that were scheduled in the festival's programme, which forced the festival's administration to reschedule the programme hastily.
25 singers and solist musicians will be holding concerts during the the 7-day festrival, including the acclaimed Egyptian singer Afaf Radi, the Lebanese Oud player Rami Yassoub, and the Egyptian Qanoon player Saber Abdelsattar. In addition to the singers Hani Shaker, Khaled Selim, Ihab Tawfik, Ali al-Hajar, Nadia Mustafa, Ahmed Saad, Asmaa Lemnawar, Safwan Bahlawan, Marwa Nagui, Riham Abdelhakim, Mai Farouk, Rihab Metawei and Waad al-Bahari.
