Ammar El-Sharii
Musician union representative Eda Ragab, called on the Prime Minister Hisham Qandil, to decide quickly whether to pay for Ammar el-Shraii's surgery.
Reda Ragab told Arabstoday, "I have allocated an employee from
the union to stay at the office of the Prime minister. I know that he is busy, but Ammar el-Sharii is a great value and he needs high cost surgery." Ragab felt this is the least that can be done for this artist.
El-Shraii's condition is stable, but he requires surgery to implant a pacemaker. Sharii already had two open heart operations but still suffers from an artery blockage.
The artist Medhat Saleh said to Arabstoday, "I demand all Egyptians to ask Allah to save the greatest artist alive."
The artist Mona Abdelghany said, "Ammar el-Sharii greatly formed my artistic personality."
Ammar el-Sharii was born in the Samalod province of Minya in Upper Egypt 1948. He received his education at Taha Hussien School for blind students in Cairo and graduated in 1966. He joined the English department at Ain Shams University and graduated in 1970.
