Tunis - Azhar Jarboui

Facebook photo shows Tunisian protester on hunger strike in el-Kef Three Tunisian men sewed their lips and started a hunger strike in protest against rising poverty and unemployment, outside government headquarters in el-Kef on Thursday.A number of unemployed people joined the protest, demanding that the government provides job opportunities for development. They threatened to escalate their protests, if the government refused to respond.
Elsewhere, workers at a waste disposal company in Sfax organised a strike to demand professional integration and an improvement in their social position.
Tunisian Minister of Development Jamal el-Din Gharbi urged workers and citizens to halt their demonstrations, because they reflect badly on the global image of the country and will have an impact on foreign investments.
The social tension in Tunisia has shown no sign of easing, despite the government signing a social contract with trade unions on the second anniversary of Tunisian revolution.
