QIIB has permission to open two new branches in Tunis Qatari Islamic Investment Bank (QIIB) has proposed to finance the Tunisian government's purchase of four Airbus planes. The bank held talks with Tunisian Minister of Transportation Abdel-Kareem el-Haroony and Director General of Tunisian Airlines Rabeh Garad, outlining plans to finance logistical projects, including Tunisian International Airport and various railways projects.
The Tunisian ministry expressed its desire to find a source to finance specific projects that have been given priority during the current phase, aiming to develop services of the transportation sector. It is believed that the bank could finance the government's needs with a loan ranging from $500m to $750m.
Tunisia’s Ministry of Finance has promised to help develop the Islamic banking sector in Tunisia through building legislative frameworks. The Qatari bank has managed to gain an approval from the Tunisian government to open two branches in Tunis to target the African market.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Tunisian minister el-Haroony released 20 new "high specification" trains that would start running to serve passengers immediately  Speaking to reporters, he said that the rail launch was coincide with the second anniversary of the launch of the Tunisian revolution.
The Tunisian National Company for Railways said that the new trains have been equipped with the latest technology to meet the requirements of quality. "They have surveillance cameras to provide safety for the travellers," it added. The trains were made in China, based on an agreement between the Tunisian company and the Chinese Company of Railways.
