The assistant to Sudan's president, Nafi Ali Nafi, revealed on Tuesday that the resignation of the Sudanese industry minister Abdel-Wahab Mohammed Osman had not been accepted. The decision
was made after a meeting of the National Congress Party (NCP) led by the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
Osman had submitted his resignation after the postponement of the openinig of the White Nile sugar company on Thursday to another date due to an emergency. The meeting described the minister’s action as “a democratic practice and an instance of transparency that is rare.”
After rejecting the resignation, Bashir decided to form a committee to determine the reasons behind the postponement.
The minister submitted his resignation on Tuesday morning saying that the company opening did not take place due to the unavailability of the operating system (software). He added “Due to the embarrassment we caused to people and to the state as a result of this postponement, I submitted my resignation to President Omar al-Bashir, bearing full responsibility.”
Osman has managed a number of companies. He also held two ministerial positions before his current one.
According to the Sudanese channel Asohorooq, a national expert in the field of sugar industry advised that the operating system that caused the delay could be replaced with the traditional manual system so that the factory can be opened. The head of the company, Hassan Sati, said that the company apologised for the delay. He pointed out that it was due to an emergency technical issue related to an external party.
