Algeria's import of wheat has reached 3.8 million tons so far in 2013
Wheat imports in Algeria witnessed a notable increase during the first seven months of 2013 to hit
$1.39 billion compared to $1.16 billion
during the same period last year.
Algeria's import of durum wheat and soft wheat reached 3.8 million tons during the first seven months of the year, according to statistics issued by the National Centre of Electronic Media part of the Algerian Customs Administration.
Algeria wheat imports have declined since 2011 due to an increase in local production.
The north African country is however still considered one of the largest importers of wheat, especially soft wheat that is increasingly on demand in the Algerian market.
