Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) has launched Qatar-Brazil 2014 Year of Culture, an effort to enhance the historic ties between the two peoples through cultural exchange in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The celebration officially
kicked off at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in the presence of HE Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Brazilian Ambassador to Qatar HildebrandoTadeu Valadares, HE Qatar’s Ambassador to Brazil Mohamad Al-Hayki and a crowd of cultural and sports personalities from both countries.
A preliminary ceremony was held in Brasilia on the sidelines of the Qatari embassy’s celebration of the National Day on December 18.
The event is taking place under the patronage of QMA Chairperson of the Board of Trustees HE Sheikha Al-Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani. It’s the third event of this kind after Qatar-Japan 2012 and Qatar-U.K. 2013.
HE Dr. Al-Kuwari pointed to the success of previous events and the keenness of several countries to hold similar ones, which indicates the cultural reflection of them on international ties.
He added that Qatar-Brazil 2014 culminates the mutual ties between the two countries and stress their interest in boosting and developing cooperation and integration between the friendly peoples, noting that such a cultural occasion serves as a platform to show the heritage of both countries in culture, arts, education and sports.
The announcement of the new event follows the successful conclusion of the Qatar-U.K. 2013 Year of Culture, which engaged more than 350,000 people in over 90 activities in Qatar and the United Kingdom. Qatar’s Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage is a key partner in each Year of Culture.
Through the past Years of Culture, QMA has built lasting legacies between Qatar and the peoples of Japan and the United Kingdom.
